Our Nursery
At Abacus we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework. The EYFS sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure all children are able to learn and grow in a safe and secure environment. It promotes teaching and learning in schools and helps support each individual child with their ‘readiness’ for school. The framework also ensures that each individual child’s needs are cared for and that their development needs are met through planning, assessments and observations. For more information about the EYFS within our nursery please talk to any member of our team.
There are seven areas of learning and development that support a child’s development:
Communication and language
- Personal social and emotional Development
- Communication and Language Development
- Physical Development
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive arts and design
Following the EYFS seven areas of learning, and to ensure every child has an inviting and stimulating day, our staff continuously plan and prepare activities indoors and outdoors. This is achieved through various activities; sand and water play, reading, baking, music and movement, construction, appreciation of books, mud pie making, imaginative role play and many more.
At the same time staff encourage and promote British Values through positive behaviour, manners and communication, therefore encouraging all areas of development at all times and safeguarding children from radicalisation and extremism.
Our short term planning is based solely around the child and their interests, this ensures that activities and games are introduced and developed to further enhance each child’s learning through what they enjoy doing best! Our long term planning is captured through continuous provision, these can be found in the areas around the room indicating how staff, resources and environment can meet the needs of each child.
All staff welcome parents/carers to discuss and contribute to our short, medium and long-term planning. We feel it is very important to work alongside our parents/carers to provide the best care for all of our children. High quality learning provides children with the foundation they need to make the most of their abilities and talents as they grow.
