2017 Golden Apple Awards were held at the University of Cumbria, Carlisle campus on Friday 6 October 2017. The eighth annual awards ceremony hosted 20 different categories to recognise and reward excellence in education and learning, celebrating the heroes of education, from ‘Best Education and Learning Leader’ to ‘Lifetime Achievement’.
The Abacus Children’s Day Nursery were thrilled to be nominated and shortlisted in the ‘Best Early Years Provider’ category, alongside Muddy Boots Nursery based in Newton Rigg, Penrith and North Walney Primary, Nursery and Pre-School in Barrow.
Leanne Perkins, Deputy Nursery Manager and I both attended the glamorous event on behalf of all the team at Abacus, enjoying a fabulous evening which was fantastic from start to finish. So many amazing people from around our area were recognised for the outstanding work and changes they make to young lives. It truly was a pleasure to be a part of such an amazing celebration.
The University of Cumbria choir sang to welcome all the guests, showcasing their beautiful talent and a three course dinner followed before James Higgins, Editor of the North West Evening Mail officially opened the event before inviting Julie Clayton to the stage to guide guests through the prize giving ceremony.
The ‘Best Early Years Provider’ award was up first. Leanne and I were both apprehensive to hear who had won. All of our team at Abacus work so hard every day making such a difference to the lives of the children in our care, it was such a wonderful achievement to even be nominated and subsequently shortlisted for the award. So when Abacus were announced as the winner, you can imagine how astounded and overwhelmed we were. Taking to the stage to accept the award was an amazing experience and following this we were able to fully relax and enjoy the evening, recognising all of the talented and amazing professionals we had the pleasure of celebrating with.
Alison Allen, Nursey Owner further expressed both her and the team’s joy: “I am delighted that Abacus Nursery have won the award for ‘Best Early Years Provider’. This is recognition of the hard work, effort and commitment from all of our team since we opened our doors in 2015. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Zoe and Leanne for leading such an amazing team of employees. To all the parents who have supported us and the fabulous children past and present that we have cared for… thank you. We look forward to celebrating with the whole team.”
Thank you to the University of Cumbria for hosting a superb evening and to CN Group, the Golden Apple Awards team, judges, sponsors and all others who contributed to making the evening so special and one to remember.
